SHOWTIME! — 2008 National Boat Show, 15th to 17th August
THE 2008 National Boat Show, including the Dive Expo, which took place from 15th to 17th August at the Coca-Cola Dome was indeed a 360 degree display of anything in, on or under the water.
There’s something enviable about the lifestyle that comes with boating, and thousands upon thousands of South Africans are buying into it. This is evident by the record number of visitors at the show this year. Africa’s biggest boat and leisure exposition attracted 31 778 visitors, 15% of whom were between the ages of 12 and 18.
The National Boat Show remains the biggest boating event on the annual national calendar, taking up an impressive 24 000m2 of floorspace, showcasing more than 220 exhibits and attracting the highest number of visitors. It is also interesting to note that exhibitor participation increased by 25% in 2008.
The value of the boats and craft on show is estimated at R200-million, and each year the show gives away an estimated R1-million worth of prizes.
